Day 1
Classroom Routines and Oral Language development
In these sessions, we will focus on:
- developing oral language skills through the extensive use of the Gesture Approach
- learning gestures and how to use them to effectively helps students develop oral language skills
- simplifying the language so that you may engage exclusively in the Target language with students
- implementing effective AIM Routines for engagement and successful classroom management
- using Transition songs develop language skills and create a sense of security and predictability
Day 2
Centre Activities!
In these sessions, we will focus on:
- the continued development oral language skills
- how to model activities so that students may effectively engage in centre activities exclusively in French
- how to ensure that students engage in French only in all activities
- AIM activities that develop written language skills
- a variety of concrete activities that take the AIM philosophy into the teaching of social studies, math, science, art and language arts
1-Day AIM Specialty Sessions (Regular Price $215.00)
Each session will be 70 minutes long. You will receive a link to each of the 5 live sessions, and can attend whichever ones you like. Since some of these sessions will overlap, you will receive recordings of the sessions to view at your leisure for 90 days!

Workshop details
1. Hands-on basic Gesture Practice -7:30am-8:40am PST / 10:30am-11:40am EST with Wendy Maxwell, Creator of the AIM
Prerequisite: For teachers of Core French/FSL or Immersion students who have taken Level 1 Beginner AIM Training.
In this 70-minute interactive session, we will:
- review important high-frequency gestures, practise teacher-led self-expression, and how to vary your gesture reviews,
- demonstrate how to conduct an 'Opposites Review' and some targeted work with gestures relating to grammar.
- Wendy will also take requests based on the needs/interests of the group!
2. Story Extension and Book Publishing - 10:10am-11:20am PST / 1:10pm-2:20pm EST with Wendy Maxwell, Creator of the AIM
Prerequisite: For teachers of Core French/FSL/Immersion or Spanish students (Grades 2 and up) who have taken Level 1 Beginner AIM Training.
In this 70-minute session, we will focus on:
- how to develop ideas for this activity from the beginning of your Kit
- live demonstrations so that you may experience the process
- sharing sample student stories for discussion
3. Hands-on Practice with AIM Readers - 12:50pm-2:00pm PST / 3:50pm-5:00pm EST with Pauline Galea
Prerequisite: For teachers of French who have taken Level 1 Beginner AIM Training.
In this 70-minute hands-on workshop, we will:
- demonstrate how to use Pauline's new readers series 'Les sons' with your students, both to teach the emergent readers in early immersion classes and to help older students in grades 3, 4 or 5 and who are new to the language, recognize sounds that are particular to French.
- provide hands-on practice to show how to effectively use AIM strategies such as des questions totales et partielles and
- provide hands-on practice with activities such as Vrai ou Faux ?, Qu'est-ce que tu vois dans l'image ? and Décris l'image to develop oral language skills in short, simple activities that may be done anytime with very little preparation!
4. Games in the AIM Classroom - 12:50pm-2:00pm PST / 3:50pm-5:00pm ESTwith Dan Bart, Certified AIM teacher/facilitator
Prerequisite: For teachers of Core French/FSL or Immersion students, (Grades 2 and up), who have taken Level 1 Beginner AIM Training.
In this 70-minute session, you will:
- observe and learn several fun and motivating games developed by Dan Bart, Richard Smith and Karen Oraas as well as:
- learn how games are incorporated into the AIM classroom using AIM techniques such as TLSE
- understand how games can be used to review taught material and target language
- learn why games are so useful for supporting engagement, variety, and spontaneity in the second language classroom.
